The border town of Jammu is located in the far north of India. The city is only about 50 kilometers from the border with neighboring Pakistan. It belongs to the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. With around 400,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in this state. In contrast to most Indian cities, the Dogri language is increasingly spoken around the city.

Due to the very warm climate in Jammu, with an average temperature of 41 degrees Celsius per year, the city is also known as the “capital of winter”. Especially in winter, when it is cold in many places in India, many holidaymakers come to Jammu.

Jammu offers some remarkable temples of the Hindu faith. In total there are around 40 such temples in the city. Most of them are also open to visitors from other denominations. A trip to Pakistan, which is only around 50 kilometers away, is also recommended for holidaymakers.

Local transport in Jammu is based on a wide bus network that runs both in the city center and in the surrounding towns. There is also a central train station with good long-distance connections. Jammu also has a smaller airport outside the city.

Jammu Satwari

Jammu Airport is located in the far north of India in the rugged border region with Pakistan. Despite the repeatedly flaring up political explosiveness of this region - after all, the next border crossing is less than 15 kilometers away - the north of India has neither large economic nor tourist capacities. In addition to the city of Srinagar, Jammu Airport is an important connection to the flourishing south of the country, with flights to Delhi clearly dominating.
Many locals look for happiness there, or in cities like Pune and Mumbai, or fly abroad from there to try it there. At Jammu Airport there is also a flight connection to the aforementioned Srinagar, which is undoubtedly the more convenient way to conquer the mountains.
Otherwise there is not much to say about the small airport. The terminal and the entire site are characterized by the expected clarity and pragmatic problem solving. There is a runway that is well maintained, but there are no local public transport connections to the villages in the region, which is why it is advisable to take care of your onward journey before starting your journey.
