Implementation - Possibilities - Limits

Author: C. Döpfner

Published by Springer Berlin Heidelberg

Summary

The content of the term “sustainability” is not protected. As a result, the range of what is assessed as sustainability is immense. It turns out that the majority of sustainability rating agencies and providers of such ratings pursue approaches that are not at all suitable for promoting sustainability in companies in an ethically comprehensive sense. Because with most agencies and providers, the focus is only on a selection of those sustainability criteria that can be expected to have financial effects on the companies to be assessed.
So that sustainability ratings (can) meet the high standards of promoting sustainable development in companies, the ratings must be based on a clearly defined, value-oriented concept of sustainability.
