How much does an alcohol license cost

Sale and serving

Retail trade permit

If you want to sell spirits in a shop, serve them in a restaurant, or distribute them online or in the alley, you need a retail license. You must apply for this permit from the responsible canton, i.e. the canton from which the trade is carried out.

Age limits

You must adhere to the age limits when selling and serving spirits. Spirits may not be given to young people under the age of 18.

Advertising regulations

You should also familiarize yourself with the advertising regulations; Happy hours or price comparisons are not allowed for spirits, for example.

Trade bans

According to Article 41 of the Alcohol Act, retail trade in distilled water is prohibited:

  • in wandering;
  • on generally accessible streets and squares;
  • by peddling;
  • through generally accessible machines;
  • at prices that do not guarantee cost recovery; with the granting of free gifts and other perks that are intended to attract the consumer;
  • by giving it to children and young people under the age of 18;
  • through free distribution for advertising purposes to an indefinite group of people.

Private individuals

For sales from private person to private person, it is best to inquire with the responsible canton as to the quantity from which you need a retail trade license.
