Driving license for classes C to F

Driving license for class C (C1)

Requirement:

  • Have a class B driving license
  • Class C1: Minimum age 18 years
  • Class C:
    • Minimum age of 21 years or
    • Minimum age of 18 years and possession of a driver qualification certificate or
    • Minimum age of 18 years and successful completion of the apprenticeship "professional driver" or "professional driver" or
    • Minimum age of 18 years and restriction on driving certain vehicles for the purpose of performing public tasks or for the purpose of technical development in repair and maintenance work

At simultaneous application the driving license for Classes B and C the applicant can only be admitted to the practical driving test for class C if he / she has passed the theoretical and practical driving test for class B.

Time limit

All from January 19, 2013 issued driving authorizations:

  • Under 60 years: five years
  • From 60 years: two years

The driving license for class C (C1) must be renewed every five or two years. A medical certificate is required for each extension.

Persons who have the driving license after November 1, 1997 the time limit applicable to them can already be found as an entry in the driver's license.

A before November 1, 1997 Driving license granted for class C expires on the 48th birthday. The application for an extension must therefore be submitted beforehand.

Driving license for class D (D1)

Requirement:

  • Have a class B driving license
  • Class D1: Minimum age 21 years
  • Class D:
    • Minimum age of 24 years or
    • Minimum age of 21 years and possession of a driver qualification certificate or
    • Minimum age of 21 years and restriction on driving certain vehicles for the purpose of performing public tasks or for the purpose of technical development in repair and maintenance work
  • Class D1: Instruction in emergency life-saving measures (six hours)
  • Class D: 16 hour first aid course

Applicants for a class D (not D1!) Driving license must apply for a traffic psychological screening undergo (in addition to the medical certificate). Among other things, the

  • Ability to observe and concentrate,
  • Resilience and coordination as well
  • Motivation for acquiring this driving license.

Time limit

An alcohol limit of 0.1 per mille (instead of 0.5 per mille) applies to the commissioning and driving of class D vehicles.

Driving license for class F

Requirement:

  • Minimum age 18 years
  • Minimum age 16 years with the following restrictions:
    • Agricultural vehicles only
    • Proof of required mental and physical maturity
    • Prescription of necessary conditions or restrictions on driving license

The following applies to the commissioning and driving of class F vehiclesfor under 20 year olds an alcohol limit of 0.1 per mille (instead of 0.5 per mille).

Class F driving licenses are only valid in Austria and in countries that have expressly recognized this driving license (e.g. Germany, Italy, Slovenia).
