Introduction Chanting mantras (kirtan) is a beautiful, joyful method of expanding consciousness. People have been singing to express their feelings and emotions since time immemorial. Singing religious songs has an important place in almost all spiritual traditions. Higher awareness is a matter of experience, not just a question of faith. It is an inherent ability in every human being. In the superconscious you experience the unity of being and life gets a meaning. The joie de vivre and strength that arise will also help you in daily life. In order to come to this higher consciousness, the ego with its attachments and the intellect, which is always limited in time, space and causality, must be transcended. In yoga, the intellect as a power of distinction and the ego as self-confidence and self-confidence have their function and must be consciously trained; however, you should also be able to transcend the boundaries of the ego and intellect. One of the simplest and most effective methods for this is mantra chanting (kirtan), sometimes called mantra chanting. It helps to open the heart and awaken inner feelings of love, humility, and adoration. The limits of the intellect can easily be transcended through the awakening of this rich inner world of feelings.

Saraswati, the goddess of music, the arts and wisdom. The advantage of singing in an unfamiliar language such as Sanskrit is that the words are free from everyday experiences and prejudices. With an open mind and starting from the heart, mantra singing becomes a very special experience. The language of the mantras is Sanskrit, also called Devanagari, the language of the gods. Sanskrit is the oldest language in the world and has been used in India for thousands of years for spiritual purposes, not for everyday life. The mantras in Sanskrit have special power. Using the power of sound, they can cleanse the energy channels (nadis) in the astral body, awaken and activate the chakras. With special concentration one can awaken the Kundalini (evolutionary force in humans) just by chanting mantras.7th

Yoga Vidya Kirtan Book There are many books on mantras. There is some scientific research into the effects of mantras on plant growth, curing diseases, and altering brain waves. There are studies that connect the vibration of the mantras with the vibrations of the planets, geometric shapes (yantras) and the basic colors. The most important way to learn about the purpose of chanting mantra is to try it out without prejudice. Mantras seem strange at first, maybe difficult to pronounce. Just try it out with an open mind. After a while, the mantras may seem more familiar to you than your own language. Because the sounds of the mantras come closest to the vibrations of our deepest states of mind. Mantra singing is of course only a part of yoga. Master Sivananda always emphasized the need for a holistic yoga, which he called "integral yoga" or "yoga of synthesis": asanas (physical exercises), pranayama (breathing exercises), relaxation and proper nutrition for the development of the physical body and the awakening of the energies; selfless service to eliminate selfishness; Mantra chanting and worship of the divine to transform the power of emotions into devotion and selfless love; Scripture Study and Self-Analysis to Overcome the Intellect; and finally, meditation to delve deep into the true nature of being called the Self, God, the Truth. This booklet is intended to accompany you as you sing mantras. We have included some explanations, illustrations, a detailed table of contents and an index with all the chants in alphabetical order. 8th

It is best to sing mantras with others. However, kirtan is also uplifting when singing alone in your room or at work, while driving, or walking. We have a variety of kirtan tapes and CDs so you can learn the melodies at home. We hope you enjoy mantra singing as much as we do. We are always grateful for comments and suggestions. introduction

What is kirtan? Excerpts from "Bhakti Yoga" by Swami Sivananda: Kirtan is the soulful chanting of God's name. This singing has a healing effect on both the physical and subtle bodies. It's an excellent way to calm your nerves and give positive direction to emotions. While the mantras are chanted in Sanskrit, Kirtan can be done in any language. The Christian hymns can also be called kirtan. Sanskrit, the oldest human language, is also called "Devanagari", the language of the gods. Sound, made up of vibrations, is ultimately energy. A Sanskrit mantra is a mystical energy that is enclosed in a sound structure. It consists of the primordial sounds, original vibrations that arise from the object itself or the action for which it is used. For example, in all languages "Ma" or a similar sound is the meaning for "mother". It is the natural sound with which the child calls the mother. Sanskrit words are original, natural sound manifestations. That's why we use them to sing. One can translate mantras, but the translation does not have the same power. To make the energy of a mantra vibrate, we repeat it with a certain rhythm. When repeating the mantra, a specific thought pattern arises. The energy manifests.

Form associated with a certain mantra, a certain thought pattern is formed in the mind. These thought patterns are positive, beneficial, and calming. In Kundalini Yoga it is said that each chakra has a certain number of "petals" that contain certain letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. So when you chant God's name and praise in Sanskrit, the chakras are stimulated and Kundalini Shakti are awakened. Mantra chanting is the easiest way to get close to God. In the K l Yuga (Iron Age), Kirtan is the best yoga. There is power in every word. Just as the name of an object in this world evokes the idea of this object in our mind, so the name of God evokes a God-consciousness in the purified mind and thus prepares the ground for the highest God-realization. Music is the yoga of sound. The different musical tones have their own subtle channels (nadis) in the energy centers (chakras). Music makes these channels vibrate, cleanses them and awakens the psychic and spiritual power sleeping in them. Kirtan touches and opens the heart, fills the mind with purity and brings harmony and divine love. Whoever sings the name of God forgets the body and the world. Even mechanical singing still has a certain effect. However, when one sings with devotion and awareness of meaning, the benefits are immeasurable.

Name and shape are like the two sides of a coin: one does not exist without the other. When one repeats a name, the corresponding form appears in the mind. Even if you are 9

introduction

Jaya Ganesha In Jaya Ganesha we invoke the various divine aspects and powers in and around us. With this we open the heart to love and devotion. A very pure vibration arises. When chanting mantra, three points are important: 1. Correct pronunciation. 2. the dedication. 3. awareness of meaning.

In mantra yoga, the higher forces in the universe and the higher aspects of our consciousness are personified and sometimes referred to as gods. In Vedanta philosophy there is only one unmanifest truth, the Absolute (Brahman). Brahman is unqualified, infinite, immutable. Brahman manifests in the universe as Ishwara (personal god) who is omnipresent,

1. Om Om Om Om is the original mantra. Om actually consists of three letters: AU M. AUM represents all trinities and what transcends them: creation-preservation-destruction, past-present-future, physical body-astral body-causal body, etc. is omnipotent, omniscient, who is the universe creates (Brahma), maintains (Vishnu) and destroys (Shiva). A tenet in yoga (as in esotericism) is: As above, so below. As in the macrocosm, so in the microcosm. Brahman manifests itself in the individual as the Supreme Self (Atman). Gods and goddesses symbolize the various aspects of the power of the Absolute, as well as higher powers within us. You could use the archetypes in the sense of C.G. Compare guys. By repeating the mantras we tune in to these cosmic and higher inner forces.

Since everything in the manifested universe is in polarity, in Hindu mythology every aspect of truth has a masculine (Deva) and a feminine (Devi, Shakti) manifestation.

3. Jaya Ganesha with more detailed explanations and variations Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha Jaya Ganesha P him m Shr Ganesha Shr Ganesha Shr Ganesha Raksham m This is a mantra Ganesha. Ganesha, the elephant-headed god, symbolizes the removal of all obstacles. Imagine an elephant in the jungle. He removes any obstacle on the way with ease. So we ask God at the beginning of every business to remove all obstacles on the way. “Jaya” means “victory for him” or “worship him”. "Pahim m" and "Raksham m" are invocation formulas (literally: "protect me", "help me").

Sharavanabhava Sharavanabhava Sharavanabhava P him m Subrahmanya Subrahmanya Subrahmanya Raksham m Sharavanabhava stands for the elimination of all negative influences (anger, greed, etc.) on the inner and outer battlefield, on the physical and also the subtle level (negative astral beings, etc.).

Saraswati is the goddess of arts and wisdom. Calling her name gives intelligence, awakens dormant, especially creative, skills, and gives success in academic projects. Music, visual arts, intuition, mystical and academic knowledge, love, beauty, harmony and distinction are all associated with Saraswati. On the spiritual path, Saraswati symbolizes the aspirant's willingness to be open to new things and to want to learn.

Jaya Shr Lakshmi (3x) P him m Mah lakshmi (3x) Raksham m Lakshmi is the goddess of beauty, abundance and wealth. Like a mother, she gives everything that living beings on earth need. At the spiritual level it represents the accumulation of positive character traits and prana. She is the wife of Vishnu, the Sustainer.

Jaya Shr Durge (3x) P him m Mah k l (3x) Raksham m Durga represents the ideal of maternal love. She is the consort (energy aspect) of Shiva. K l, the black goddess, appears terrifying, but is gentle and kind to her admirers. It demands absolute dedication.

Vishnu Kirtans

Vishnu Kirtans In the Hindu pantheon, God Vishnu is the preserver of the universe. He embodies the qualities of mercy, goodness and the all-pervasive power that preserves and maintains the universe and the cosmic order. It stands for the balance between creation and destruction. In his left hands he holds the symbols of creation: the lotus, as a symbol for the matter of our universe, and the conch, as a symbol of the subtle creative energy. In his right hands he holds the symbols of destruction: the club, as a symbol of material destruction, and the disc, as a symbol of subtle, destructive energy. Vishnu uses all of these items to maintain righteousness and to aid the seeker on his path to perfection. Vishnu incarnated many times to protect the earth and pour down his blessings on us.

Krishna Kirtans

Krishna Kirtans Krishna is the eighth incarnation of the god Vishnu. Its purpose was to restore divine order on earth. He did this by setting down the Bhagavad Gita as a code of right conduct. His life is a shining example of the Bhagavad Gita being lived. As a child, he delighted everyone with his pranks and miracles. As an adolescent, he won everyone's hearts by playing the flute. The flute symbolizes the sound of the soul with which God, our own self, calls us to turn inward. It also symbolizes that we have to become empty as a flute if we want to become God's instrument: free from all egoism. Not my will, but your will be done, oh God. Krishna killed numerous demons (asuras, our bad qualities) and always appeared in the moment of need. While Rama is man as God, Krishna is God as man. In him there is the highest knowledge and the embodiment of divine love.

Rama Kirtans

R ma Kirtans R ma is the seventh incarnation of the god Vishnu. Its purpose was to restore righteousness and justice in the world. Shr Rama is always shown in pictures with his bow in hand, with which he protects the good and kills demons - our bad qualities. He is often shown together with his wife S t (nature) and his follower Hanum n, the monkey god. Hanum n symbolizes the human spirit, which is most easily controlled by total surrender to God and constant repetition of His names. R ma exemplarily teaches how to lead an ideal life in this world. He is the perfect person in all aspects: as ruler, as husband, as son, father and friend. The great epic “Ramayana” written by the sage Valmiki is the story of Rama's incarnation on earth.

Shiva K rtan's “Shiva” literally means “the one who promises happiness”. Shiva symbolizes the power of transformation. Shiva is the embodiment of the universal power of destruction, which ends all existence and from which all existence emerges anew. He is usually shown in a meditation posture, holding a trident and snakes around him. In his hair sits the goddess Ganga, who gives birth to the sacred river Ganges. The trident symbolizes the three gunas, the three properties of nature that Shiva ruled. The snakes also represent various lower inner powers that Shiva rules. Instead of poisoning him, they serve as an ornament. The snakes also symbolize the fact that Shiva welcomes everyone, even the lowest, as his admirer. The Ganges (female in India, called "Ganga") symbolizes the totality of creation (Shakti), which flows out of Shiva's head (the Sahasrara Chakra stands for the highest unchangeable consciousness). Sometimes Shiva as Nataraja dances the universal dance of creation, maintenance and destruction. Mostly he seeks solitude for meditation. He sits on a tiger skin, the symbol for the victory over the lower nature. He carries the equipment of a sadhu (a mendicant monk) with him: the japa mala (prayer beads), a begging bowl and the yoga danda (stick). His feminine aspect is Durga, the universal mother.

Yoga Vidya Kirtan Book

Devi Kirtans Devi is the divine energy in the feminine form of the universal mother. Consciousness, also called Brahman, Shiva, Atman, Purusha, is the static, male pole. Creation, also called Maya, Shakti or Prakriti, is the dynamic, feminine pole. For many, it is easier to approach God in his feminine form: since the relationship with the earthly mother is usually stronger than the relationship with the father, it is easier to approach Durga than Shiva. Devi manifests as the gross, as the astral as well as the causal universe, and uses the forces of creation, maintenance and destruction. In every individual it is present as Maya (illusion), Avidya (ignorance), Trishna (desire / longing) and Krodha (anger). It is also present as Viveka (discernment), Vairagya (dispassion, lack of attachment) and Mumukshutva (desire for liberation).

Lakshmi is the goddess of luck, beauty and wealth. Lakshmi is the Mother of God who gives everything to her children, both in a spiritual and material sense. She is the wife of Vishnu. K 1, the black goddess, appears wild and impetuous, but is kind and gentle to those who are devoted to her. However, it demands total devotion from them.

It is the cause of both arrest and liberation of the individual. Since everything is a manifestation of Devi, nothing can happen without her favor. Devi is embodied in the figures of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati and K l: Durga represents ideal maternal love. She is shown riding a tiger, symbolizing the strength with which she protects her children. She is the wife of Shiva. Saraswati is the goddess of eloquence, wisdom, learning, knowledge, the arts and music. She is dressed in a white sari (Indian garment) and has a cheerful, calm expression on her face.

Durga, the embodiment of maternal love and cosmic energy.

Guru Kirtans

Guru Kirtans Guidance is necessary on the spiritual path. We invoke the energy of the guru who is really within our own selves. As long as we are trapped in Maya (illusion), we can tune in to a real person from the present or the past who leads us over the numerous obstacles. Swami Sivananda was born on September 8th, 1887 in South India. After studying medicine, he went to Malaysia. There he ran a hospital and became known as the "Doctor of the Poor".

Many seekers still feel today that Swami Sivananda's guidance and grace are with them on their way. Some of the better known disciples of Swami Sivananda are the Swamis Chidananda (Chairman of the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh), Krishnananda, Brahmanananda, Venkatesananda, Vishnu-devananda (SYVC), Satyananda (Bihar School of Yoga), Hridayananada (France / Belgium), Satchidananda ( IYI in America), Jyotirmayananda (Florida), Sivananda Radha (Canada), as well as André van Lysebeth (Belgium), and Boris Sacharow (Germany).

In 1923 he gave up his job and all worldly ambitions in order to devote himself entirely to the search for the absolute. He settled in Rishikesh (Himalayas). Here he practiced intensive meditation, yoga exercises and asceticism. He attained nirvikalpa samadhi, the realization of the absolute. Swami Sivananda's light soon attracted many seekers. This is how the Sivananda Ashram and the Divine Life Society came into being in 1932. Swami Sivananda saw it as his task to spread the spiritual teachings of yoga in an understandable way for all people. He wrote nearly 300 books, founded the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy, directed countless seekers and accompanied their spiritual progress. He sent some of his close disciples all over the world and thus contributed decisively to the worldwide spread of yoga. On July 14, 1963, Swami Sivananda left his body and reached Mahasamadhi.

Ved ntic chants and hymns Ved nta means “end of knowledge”. The Ved nta philosophy says that we are not a cage of flesh, nor the fleeting mind or limited personality, but the all pervading universal self, untouched by joy and sorrow. The Ved nta leads us to the realization that this world is unreal. Only Brahman (the Absolute, God) alone is real and the individual self is one with Brahman, the Absolute.
