Why isn't Mac good for gaming

A Mac Pro as a gaming computer? Rather not…

The Mac Pro 2019 is currently the most powerful and at the same time most expensive Apple computer. In the basic configuration, the device offers a 3.5 GHz 8 ‑ core Intel Xeon W processor with Turbo Boost up to 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM and a Radeon Pro 580X graphics card at a price of 6,499 euros.

While Apple sees the computer's area of application primarily in professional video and audio editing, YouTuber Quinn Nelson asks himself whether you can play with it properly. After all, Apple has always been criticized for not offering any usable gaming machines.

Even the Mac Pro cannot do away with this shortcoming. Nelson recorded disappointing refresh rates and criticized the standard Apple graphics card. This is an obsolete model that was available for just over $ 200 in early 2017 and is out of all proportion to the machine's $ 6,000 price tag.

The stock Radeon Pro 580X in the 2019/2020 Mac Pro is disappointing to say the least. It's an inexpensive card from 2017 clad in a new MPX format to save face, and it's not enough for not just gaming but computing as well.

Nelson also tries to run the high-performance Mac through Boot Camp through Windows and with a newer graphics card that is better designed for gaming performance. In combination with the comparatively inexpensive AMD 5700 XT, it can register a significantly increased graphics performance in general, but the gaming performance still leaves a lot to be desired.
