Use Page Lock in Class Notebook

Prevent students from making further changes to a page in your Class Notebook while you review it after the due date or at any time. You can view and comment on comments while a student page is locked, but the student can only view the page.

Before you begin, you must teach one of the following versions of OneNote:

  • OneNote 2016 with the February 2018 or later update of the Course Notebook Add-in

  • OneNote for Windows 10 - read the instructions below.

  • OneNote on the web

  • OneNote for iPad - see OneNote for iOS for instructions.


Students must be using one of the following versions of OneNote for this feature to work on their pages. Please check the version you are using with the following instructions:

Lock Class Notebook Pages in OneNote 2016

First, make sure you are connected to the internet so your changes will sync with your students' notebooks.

  1. Open OneNote and navigate to the Class Notebook that you need to edit.

  2. Choose Class Notebook > Check out.

  3. Select the notebook section you are reviewing.

  4. Expand the list of student names under the task you need to block.

  5. Check the box Page locks to block this page for all course participants.



    Right-click a student name to lock a page individually.



    Tip: Another way to lock pages is to right click on a page and " Lock page" to choose.



    Check the blocked status of student pages by clicking

Lock Class Notebook Pages in OneNote for Windows 10, OneNote on the web, OneNote for iPad

  1. Open OneNote and navigate to the Class Notebook that you need to edit.

  2. Choose Course notebook from,> the Review student work.

  3. Select the notebook section and page you want to review and click then on next.

  4. Choose Page locksout.



    Choose Select all to lock all pages, or select the check box next to a student's name to lock each page.

    Tip:Choose First name or Surname to sort the list of student names.




    If you want to unlock the pages, return to Review student workspace and choose again Page locks out. Clear the check boxes, and then select Above to takeout.
