Why can't the ringtone of the iPhone be changed?

Use notification tones and ringtones on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Learn how to change the sound that plays when you receive a call, text message, email, or other notification on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Choose from a variety of built-in tones or purchase ringtones from the iTunes Store.

Change the ringtone

  1. Go to Settings> Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Under "Sounds and vibration patterns," tap the sound you'd like to change.
  3. Tap a ringtone or notification tone to play it and set it as a new tone.

Set a ringtone or SMS tone for a contact

  1. Open the People app and tap a person's name.
  2. In the top right corner of the person's contact card, tap Edit.
  3. Tap Ringtone or Message Tone, then choose a new tone.

Buy ringtones from the iTunes Store

  1. Open the iTunes Store app.
  2. Tap on "More".
  3. Tap on "Sounds".
  4. Find a ringtone that you want to buy, then tap the price.
  5. Choose an option to set the ringtone automatically. Or tap "Done" to decide later.
  6. You may need to enter your Apple ID password to complete the purchase.

The availability and functions of the stores may vary by country or region. Find out what features are available in your country or region.

Reload ringtones purchased with your Apple ID

  1. Go to Settings> Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Under "Sounds and vibration patterns," tap any sound you want.
  3. Tap "Load All Purchased Tones". You may not see this option if you have already downloaded all of your purchased tones or have not purchased any tones.

Some previously purchased tones may not be able to be reloaded.
