How expensive is a tattoo?

What a tattoo costs depends on various points such as the size of the motif, the style, the part of the body, etc. The price is therefore based on the hours actually required. If you would like to have an idea of the scope and cost of your desired tattoo, it is best to make an appointment.

Does tattooing hurt?

Yes, it hurts - because a needle pokes the paint into your skin. Depending on the part of the body and individual pain sensation, it hurts less for some, more for some. The feeling is similar to epilating. Tattoos on the outside of the arm or on the thigh usually hurt less. Ribs, backs or hollows of the knees are more for tough warriors. It is best to come to your tattoo appointment relaxed and well rested and eat something before it - this is the best way to relieve the pain.

Can I bring my own motif?

Sure, you can take a motif or a picture to illustrate your tattoo idea with you to the meeting. We create an individual tattoo from it. We do NOT copy any other tattoos, pictures or work!

Can I get a tattoo spontaneously?

Usually no. To get a tattoo, you need to make an appointment in advance. However, it can sometimes be the case that an appointment becomes free at short notice due to a failure. How do you find out about it? Follow Belle Arti Tattoo on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date.

I'm not yet 18, can I still get a tattoo?

No, not even with the permission of a legal guardian. We're strict on that - yes, maybe even stricter than your mommy. And that's because we are convinced that at 16 you don't know what you want to wear on your body all your life. In case of doubt, we require identification. If you pretend to be of legal age and are not, then this will be reported as a criminal offense.

Can I take someone to my tattoo appointment?

Ideally, you come to your appointment alone. So the tattoo artist can fully concentrate on his work and guarantee the best possible result. If you feel insecure, feel free to bring ONE person with you who can hold your hand and advise you. Please do not take the whole family or circle of friends with you, as this will cause unrest and this could have a negative effect on your tattoo.

What do I do if I cannot show up for the tattoo appointment?

Please cancel 48 hours in advance by telephone, otherwise your deposit and your subsequent appointments will be forfeited.

What do I do if I get sick?

When you are sick, you shouldn't get a tattoo. So please cancel the appointment as soon as possible by phone (48 hours in advance), otherwise the deposit will be forfeited.

Can I get a tattoo if I take antibiotics?

If you have to take antibiotics, please give us an early call (48 hours in advance). Because pricking antibiotics is no fun for you or the tattoo artist!

Can I get a tattoo during or after a pregnancy?

We do not tattoo pregnant or breastfeeding women. It is best to wait until the end of the breastfeeding period with your new tattoo.

Can I get a tattoo before or after an operation?

Please consult your doctor about how long before or after you should avoid tattooing.

Can I get a tattoo over my scars?

Yes, tattoos can also be done over scar tissue, provided the scar has healed and is more than 3 years old. Please inform your tattoo artist in advance so they can advise you accordingly.

I'm sunburned, can I still get a tattoo?

No, because the skin is too irritated. If you show up with sunburn on the due date, the appointment cannot be kept and the deposit will be forfeited. It is best to avoid excessive sun before your tattoo appointment. If you still got a little too much (it can hit everyone), please call 48 hours beforehand to cancel.

Do you do biological tattoos or permanent make-up?

No. We focus on what we do best: tattooing.

Do you also do piercings?

Can I be allergic to tattoo ink?

Do you have any allergies of concern? The best thing to do is to discuss this with your tattoo artist. To be on the safe side, you can do an allergy test (contact test) with your doctor.

Questions about tattooing

How do I properly care for the tattoo?

In our care instructions you can see what you should pay attention to after the piercing.

How long do I have to leave the foil on after tattooing?

2-3 hours, until no more blood and fire water presses out. In this way, scab formation (on contact with oxygen) can be prevented as far as possible. After removing the foil, wash the tattoo clean, pat dry and apply lotion. Please follow care instructions.

How often should i put lotion on my tattoo?

Rub the freshly made tattoo with a little cream 2-3 times a day. The tattoo shouldn't be too wet and not too dry.

How long do I have to apply cream to my tattoo?

After the piercing, it is best to use a tattoo care cream for 1.5 to 2 weeks. Afterwards you can omit this and cream the tattoo with normal body lotion. This helps the silver skin to recede (the pinkish-red skin that appears on an abrasion after the scab has peeled off). The skin stays smoother by applying the lotion. So the tattoo looks stronger and lasts better over the years.

What do I have to consider when showering?

Normal showering won't harm the tattoo. You shouldn't lather or "scrub" the tattoo vigorously until the scab is gone. If soap spills on it, nothing will happen if you rinse it off well with water. It's better to avoid taking a shower that is too long and too hot.

Can I work the next day?

Normally yes. A tattoo is a controlled abrasion and shouldn't be a restriction on the job. If you are very physically active in your job (furniture maker or fitness instructor), it may be advisable to take a few days off depending on the healing process (see question: "May I do sports tomorrow").

Can I do sports tomorrow?

Better not. The skin moves more intensely during sport and under extreme physical strain. This can lead to micro-tears in the tattoo, which can lead to loss of color or, in the worst case, scarring. It is recommended not to exercise until the crust is completely gone. Depending on the individual healing, this can take 1.5 to 2 weeks.

Can I take a dip in the swimming pool, thermal bath or myself?

You shouldn't bathe 2-3 weeks after the tattoo appointment (until the scab is completely gone). The crust dissolves in the water, which can lead to loss of color or inflammation of the wound.

Do I have to re-stitch the tattoo?

Usually, no. But skin is alive and some color can sometimes work its way out of the tattoo in the healing process. If that happens, you can prick the spot.

Is the re-stitching free?

Up to 6 months after the prick, yes. Unless the color has worked its way out of the tattoo for natural reasons. But not in the case of improper care or disregard of the care instructions. In this case, the effort for reworking will be offset against the normal tattoo price.

When is the tattoo completely healed?

After approx. 4-6 weeks the tattoo is superficially healed. However, it can take up to 6 years for the tattoo to heal completely.

When can I continue my tattoo?

Follow-up appointments are given after 4-6 weeks, when the tattoo has healed on the surface.

How long should I not be in the sun with the fresh tattoo?

It is advisable not to go into the sun or the solarium 3-4 weeks after the piercing. This can ignite or fade the tattoo.

How can I protect my tattoo from the sun?

To protect healed tattoos, it is best to use factor 50 sunscreen or cover your tattoo so that it does not come into the sun in the first place.

Why does my tattoo start to burn under the blazing sun?

The black color in the skin attracts the sun more, like a black T-shirt, for example. It may make your skin warmer than other areas. If you get a rash or your tattoo swells, you may have a sun allergy. This can be enhanced by a tattoo. If it doesn't resolve, it's best to inform your doctor.

Will my tattoo bleed or fade over the years?

It is entirely possible and normal for a tattoo to fade or run over the years. Because the skin over your tattoo lives, works and gets older. This is why your tattoo will look paler over time. Depending on your skin type and how much you lie in the sun, your skin ages earlier. This can cause your tattoo to fade or bleed.

Can I have my tattoo refreshed?

Refurbishing an old tattoo is possible, but it will be charged as a normal expense. The best thing to do is to make an appointment. So you can show us the tattoo and we can see with you how the tattoo could be refreshed.

Do you do cover ups?

Basically yes. When choosing a motif, it is important that you have the following in mind: Normally, a cover-up is about three times larger than the existing tattoo. And not everything can be covered with everything (black stays black). The best thing to do is to make an appointment. This way we can get an idea of the current situation and you can discuss the possibilities with the tattoo artist.

Can I donate blood after the tattoo?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to donate blood 4-6 months after the tattoo. You can find more information on the blood donation page of the Swiss Red Cross.

Help, black bits are coming off my tattoo.

Don't panic, this is normal. The top layer (the scab) loosens in the healing process. Important: do not scratch! Even if it bites nasty.

Help, my tattoo is extremely biting.

This is normal for the tattoo to heal. So it's a good sign. Important: NEVER, please never scratch! Scratch elsewhere or wash off the tattoo briefly, this can help.

Help, my tattoo is painful, red and inflamed to the touch.

It could be that bacteria have infiltrated (improper care of the tattoo). Please contact the studio or go to the doctor directly. It is not normal, but it can happen if you are not careful with the care.

Help, my tattoo is sticking out.

This can happen depending on the skin. For example, when shaving, scratching or sunbathing too long. That is normal and harmless. Applying lotion (moisturizer or body lotion) can help.
