However, the COVID-19 pandemic will very likely also have an impact on the world of work that is currently difficult to assess. Residential houses, office buildings, industrial halls, roads, bridges: it is a long way from the construction plan to the finished structure. A good spatial imagination and an interest in technology are required for professions related to construction. When planning or organizing, working on the computer should be fun. For activities on construction sites, in workshops or during assembly work, physical fitness and skillful use of tools and machines are important.

The Labor Market Research and Career Information Department - ABI for short - deals with the areas of labor market statistics, career information and qualification research.

Her tasks include the creation of information materials (folders, brochures, ...), the development, provision and updating of online tools to support the search for training, occupation, trends in the labor market, etc.

The publication of the current unemployment statistics as well as internal and external public relations are also among the core tasks of this department.

Teaching

There is in Austria228Apprenticeships. (If the training focuses and main modules of the focus and module apprenticeships are added, it is 324 apprenticeships).

The training takes place in one Teaching company and in the professional school.

Requirement: Completion of the 9-year compulsory school (Age: from 15), Apprenticeship in a training company (Apprenticeship contract).

The Duration of training amounts to depending on the apprenticeship 2 years, 3 years, 3½ years or 4 years.

The Apprentice income (formerly "apprentice compensation"), ie the payment during the training, is mostly in one Collective agreement regulated.

The teaching closes with the Final apprenticeship examination from. The Apprenticeship certificate entitled to Professional practice as a skilled worker R.. Besides, it is the basis for obtaining a Business license for independent professional practice.

Vocational schools

There is in Austria 484 vocational schools. Will be in around 430 schools medium education (2- to 4-year-old technical schools, commercial schools) offered in around 300 schools higher education (5 years old).

There are specializations in the areas Technology / business (e.g. structural engineering, chemistry, EDP / information technology, electronics / electrical engineering, wood technology, machine technology, fashion / textiles), Commercial Jobs (Business school, business academy), economic professions, Social professions and agricultural and forestry professions.

requirement: positive completion of the 8-year compulsory school (fourth grade Hauptschule or Neue Mittelschule or Gymnasium) (Age: from 14).

The middle schools close with the final exam from, the higher with the Mature and diploma exam (Eligibility to study, for technical directions entitlement to the title of engineer)

Uni / FH / PH - studies at universities

requirement for a degree: Matriculation examination, Vocational matriculation examination or University entrance examination.

There is in Austria 34 universities (22 public, 12 private), 14Pedagogical colleges and 21Universities of applied sciences.

Study opportunities are available in almost all fields of knowledge and professions: technology, humanities and cultural sciences, medicine and health care, natural sciences, law, social and economic sciences, theology, teaching, etc.

degrees: mainly Bachelor, Master, graduate engineer, doctor.

disadvantage: long duration of training; advantage: good employment and career prospects.

Auxiliary / training occupations

For certain professions or jobs is no vocational training (Auxiliary professions) or just one short on-the-job training (Apprenticeships) required. These professions can be exercised by people who do not have a professional qualification. Such professions often exist in the areas of "storage / transport", "agriculture and forestry", "construction" and "production".

 

These professions are characterized by low pay, few opportunities for advancement and greater job insecurity (temporary work, seasonal work). It is therefore particularly important for those affected to have a continuing Professional Education and one Professional qualification (e.g. a final apprenticeship examination). For this purpose, specialist courses and preparation courses for the final apprenticeship examination are offered.

Short / special training

These training courses are suitable for people who already have an apprenticeship (apprenticeship and school graduates) but want to develop professionally differently or further, or for people who want to achieve special professions for which there is no apprenticeship / school / study training .
