Metal band Pantera drummer dies

Metal band Pantera co-founder and drummer Vinnie Paul has died at the age of 54. The band announced this on their Facebook page.

Arlington - The drummer and co-founder of the successful metal band Pantera is dead. Vinnie Paul, who had been on the drums for the band Hellyeah since 2006, died at the age of 54, Pantera announced on Saturday night on Facebook. She did not give details about Paul's death.

Born in Texas as Vincent Paul Abbott, the musician founded Pantera in 1981 with his brother Dimebag Darrell and helped lead it to success with singer Phil Anselmo. The breakthrough came with the album "Vulgar Display of Power" from 1992, which the band established alongside big names such as Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Pantera was nominated for four Grammys, the album "Far Beyond Driven" from 1994 is considered a classic among fans.

Darrell was shot on stage in 2004 during a concert by the successor band Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio. In 2006 the band Hellyeah was founded in Dallas (Texas) - a so-called supergroup made up of musicians from already existing, successful bands. Hellyeah had planned performances in Texas and California for the fall.
