PNY XLR8 CS3140: Fast PCIe 4.0 SSD starts in Germany

With the PNY XLR8 CS3140, enthusiasts have more choice in the area of high-end SSDs with PCIe 4.0. According to the manufacturer, the M.2 SSD achieves transfer rates of up to 7,500 MB / s reading and 6,850 MB / s writing and is available with 1 TB or 2 TB storage space.

CS3140 starts in Germany

The CS3140 had already been presented by PNY for other regions, but the official market launch in Germany has only now taken place. The SSD series is now available in stores with or without a cooler. Without the cooler, the CS3140 with 1 TB costs € 264.66 * and the 2 TB version costs around € 481.55 *. With the towering cooler it is 276.59 euros * for 1 TB and 482.37 euros * for 2 TB. The surcharge for the 45 gram aluminum cooler is therefore low or hardly available.

Prices comparatively high at the beginning

However, the prices seem very high compared to other SSDs in this performance class such as the Corsair MP600 Pro (test), the Samsung 980 Pro (test) or the WD Black SN850 (test soon), as they are much cheaper.

Little key data from the manufacturer

PNY states a maximum transfer rate of 7,500 MB / s when reading, which is even higher than that of the competition mentioned, which advertises with 7,000 MB / s. The write rate should be up to 6,850 MB / s, which would also exceed that of the MP600 Pro. PNY lacks numerous details on the product pages, but the key data speak in favor of the same Phison E18 controller as the MP600 Pro from Corsair or the Aorus Gen4 7000s from Gigabyte. The use of 3D-TLC-NAND is almost guaranteed, even if PNY is only from "3D Flash Memory" speaks. NVMe 1.4 and data encryption according to AES-256 standard are supported. A DRAM cache is available. The warranty period is 5 years, which is not unusual in the NVMe SSD segment. Information on the Total Bytes Written (TBW) is not available.
