What is Culver City CA known for

From its founding and incorporation by Harry Culver in the early 1900s to the renovation and revitalization of its inner city that began in the 90s Culver City a city with a great history in film, television and aviation. Metro Goldwyn Mayer built their studios there in the 1920s, which later became Sony Pictures Studios. Howard Hughes opened his Hughes aircraft factory in 1941 - at times it was the largest employer in Los Angeles. And Sony Pictures Entertainment remains the largest employer in Culver City to this day.

Cult films such as "The Wizard of Oz", "Gone with the Wind", part of "Grease" and the Tarzan series were shot in Culver City. In the early 2000s, portions of the Hughes empire were bought or merged with General Motors, Boeing, NewsCorp and Raytheon, but Culver City's importance in aviation is evident in Martin Scorsese's biography, The Aviator.
