Why don't speakers sound like live sound?

Loudspeaker defective: What could be the cause and what you can do about it

Did you find your speaker problem in the list above? Then you will find tips and instructions for the corresponding repair below.

Straighten the tilted voice coil

Over time, gravity leaves its mark on the spool and pulls it down so that it can tilt.

Old age is the problem, here's how to fix it:

  1. Loosen the screws securing the speaker to the case.
  2. Remove the speaker and basket - you don't need to take it apart any further.
  3. Grab the speaker by the bead and turn it (like a steering wheel) 180 degrees.
  4. Put the speaker back into the box and tighten the screws.

The voice coil is now upside down in the speaker and gravity pulls the coil in the other direction. The scratching should go away soon.

Also possible: If the loudspeaker was turned up too loud, got the coilmaybetoo much stroke and was mechanically pushed out of the holder. In this case, the coil will most likely need to be replaced. Since it has to be used exactly in the middle and this work requires a certain amount of specialist knowledge, you should leave it to a specialist.
